Tripura’s governance performance, while facing challenges, showcases potential for progress. The state is ranked 27th nationally in the SKOCH State of Governance Report 2024.

The state has the potential of welfare development and growth, but would require a targeted approach to improving facilities and services. Economically, Tripura’s fiscal health remains an area of concern.

According to the Fiscal Health Index 2023, the state ranks 21st, reflecting structural weaknesses in revenue mobilisation and fiscal discipline. It is indicating a need to better align spending with developmental priorities.

To address these challenges, Tripura should focus on expanding its own revenue streams, including property taxes, service fees and tourism-related income. Investing in project readiness and institutional capacity building can also help improve governance outcomes.
